Marketplace lending and investment firm Direct Lending Investments (DLI) has hired Bryce Mason as Chief Investment Officer. He starts work July 1.

Mr. Mason has a rich background in academic research and analysis. He joins DLI from the University of California, Riverside, where he served as Assistant Vice Chancellor and directed an office focused on academic research and analysis. Past research-oriented positions include roles as Director of Institutional Research at Loyola Marymount University and President of the California Association of Institutional Research.

Mr. Mason founded P2P-Picks, an independent credit modeling service provider for marketplace lending which served retail and institutional investors on Prosper and Lending Club. He also worked with Titan Bank and Lend Academy. He will be shutting P2P-Picks down once at DLI.

Titan Bank Director Jonathan Morris believes DLI has made a wise hire.

“As an institution, our ability to get involved in P2P lending has depended on creating confidence in our portfolio construction, both at the bank level and with our regulators, and Bryce’s modeling and analysis has helped us do just that.”

Lend Academy Founder Peter Renton called Mr. Mason “a true expert in his field.”

Mr. Mason expects to play important roles in advising investors and underwriting.

“One of the most important aspects of my new role will be to provide a clear understanding of what our investors can expect in returns and a method by which to weigh the risks.”

Mason graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mathematics from the University of California, Riverside in 2001 and went on to the Frederick S. Pardee RAND Graduate School where he received his Ph.D. in Policy Analysis in 2005.
