Global small business marketplace lender Funding Circle has named Jörg Asmussen to its board.
Mr. Asmussen is a German economist and policymaker who was State Secretary for the German Ministry of Finance between 2008 and 2012 and the German Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs from 2014 to 2015. He was also an Executive Board Member of the European Central Bank in 2012 and 2013 and a Deputy in both the G7 and G20. During the economic crisis Mr. Asmussen worked closely with the Greek, Spanish, Irish and Portuguese governments.
As Funding Circle continues its growth in Europe they will benefit from Mr. Asmussen’s experience, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Funding Circle Continental Europe Matthias Knecht believes.

Since 2010 Funding Circle investors have lent more than $2 billion to more than 15,000 businesses in the United States and Europe which have produced an estimated 60,000 new jobs. Monthly lending is $150 million.
Funding Circle has raised $273 million in equity capital from the same investors that backed Facebook, Twitter, Airbnb and Wealthfront.
