Dutch bank bunq has announced an international expansion into Germany and Austria.
Operating under a Dutch banking license for the past 17 months, bunq’s mobile technology enables users to send money requests, start a shared account and pay bills. Businesses use bookkeeping and insight features.
“We are the bank you add to enrich your life with all kinds of unique applications,” bunq founder and CEO Ali Niknam said. “Daily routines become smarter and more fun as we’re offering short cuts for existing services.
“Think of it like WhatsApp. It simplified the way we communicate.”
bunq also released its open API and invited developers to create their own apps. It said it never sells data to third parties and is protected by both the ECB and Deposit Guarantee Scheme.
