Indiegogo hires web and mobile expert

Indiegogo announced the hiring of former Yelp Director of Engineering Victor Kovalev as their new Vice President of Engineering.  Mr. Kovalev will be charged with increasing the company’s web and mobile presence.

“My experience and passion lie in building engineering-driven cultures that foster radical innovation,” Mr. Kovalev said in a release. “That’s why I’m excited to be joining an organization that is equally dedicated to embracing this spirit while leading the industry in making funding more accessible and campaigns more successful than ever before.”

New Indiegogo VP Victor KovalevMr. Kovalev comes to Indiegogo following three years as Director of Engineering at, the online reviews site.  His recent focus areas included deals and gift certificates and developing their business portal, but it undoubtedly was his work with app development and partner and public API’s that attracted Indiegogo’s attention.  He also worked on international projects and contributed to their IPO.

Before joining Yelp Mr.  Kovalev spent four years at cloud and virtualization software developer VMware.  His contributions included work on Player, Workstation and Remote Console.  He also held early positions in software and artificial intelligence development.

“(Kovalev) truly owns and loves his products, and drives them to perfection,” former VMware colleague Aleksandr Tepermeyster said in a comment on Mr. Kovalev’s Linkedin page.  Another VMware associate, Igor Lib, described Mr. Kovalev as “one of the best product evangelists and customer & user advocates you can find.”

Mr. Kovalev obtained both his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and his Masters in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
