Japanese application identifier certified for U.S. EMV chip card acceptance

TheAmerican subsidiary of Japan’s  JCB Co. announced its application identifier has been certified for EMV chip card acceptance in the United States.

JCB International Credit Card’s J/Smart application identifier has been certified by Global Payments, an NYSE-listed company

“We are extremely pleased to achieve our first U.S. EMV acceptance certification,”  JCB USA’s Executive Vice President Dan Skaling said. “JCB has been a leader in EMV card acceptance in markets around the world for the past 10 years.”

JCB USA said in a release that combining J/Smart with other brand application identifiers provides a much wider EMV card acceptance footprint for U.S. merchants while resulting in minimal processor resource impact.

JCB International Credit Card has 87 milli0n card holders in 16 countries and territories. Its acceptance network includes 26 million merchants in 190 countries and territories. JCB began operations in 1961.
