Small business financing platform BFS Capital today announced today the hiring of Mary Harris as its chief marketing officer.
Ms. Harris formerly led marketing and public relations for BankUnited, a business bank headquartered in Miami-Lakes, Florida. She joins the BFS Capital senior leadership team and reports to CEO Michael Marrache.
Ms. Harris brings more than 25 years of experience to BFS Capital from the financial services and retail sectors. At BankUnited, she helped rebrand and position the company as a national commercial bank now listed as one of Forbes magazine’s “Best Banks in America.”
With BFS Capital Ms. Harris will be responsible for marketing, branding, advertising and public relations strategies as well as customer acquisition and loyalty.
BFS Capital expects to generate a new annual high in originations in 2017, the company said when announcing the hire. Since 2002, BFS Capital has extended more than $1.7 billion in financing. More than 75 per cent of its originations have occurred in the last five years and more than 25 per cent in the last 18 months.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Harris was president of Mary Harris, Inc. where she advised Fortune 500 companies seeking increased revenue and market share; the public relations manager for Neiman Marcus in Fort Lauderdale; the vice president of marketing for Union Bank in Plantation, Fla.; and an adjunct professor of business communication at Nova Southeastern University.
She has been honoured by March of Dimes, Leadership Broward and Big Brothers Big Sisters for her leadership in the South Florida community and has served on the Boards of United Way of Broward County, Lighthouse of Broward, The First Tee of Broward, and the Humane Society of Broward County, among others.
