Time, a renowned American news magazine, has named Ethereum’s co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, one of the most influential people in 2021. A report unveiled this news on September 15, noting that the Russian-Canadian programmer made the cut alongside musicians, world leaders, and activists, among other renowned personalities. Reportedly, Time mentioned Buterin in its list of leading innovators this year.

According to the report, Time Magazine’s list of top innovators this year featured people like Jensen Huang, NVIDIA’s CEO, Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, and Cameroonian virologist John Nkengasong, among others.

Commenting on Buterin’s role in Ethereum, Reddit’s co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, said the 27-year-old has managed to grow the Ethereum network to a market cap of more than $400 billion. Ohanian added that Buterin has played a significant role in fostering the development of the decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible token (NFT) spaces.

Ohanian further lauded the Ethereum co-founder, saying,

What makes Vitalik so special, though, is that he is a builder’s builder. No one person could’ve possibly come up with all of the uses for Ethereum, but it did take one person’s idea to get it started.

Crypto continues getting recognition

Apart from Buterin, other crypto-related mentions in Time Magazine include two crypto firms that made the top-100 list of most influential companies. These are Digital Currency Group, which featured in the list of disrupters like Tesla and Shopify, and Coinbase, which made the Titan list alongside firms like Facebook, Alibaba, and Google among others. Per Time Magazine, Coinbase shores up the credibility of the crypto space.

These companies making the list of the most influential firms indicate that crypto is slowly inching towards mass adoption.

Interestingly, Time Magazine dipped its toes in the burgeoning asset class this year after announcing that it was searching for a Chief Financial Officer comfortable with Bitcoin (BTC) and crypto. At that time, the organization said the media industry is evolving rapidly, adding that it was searching for someone that could guide its transformation.

Time Magazine also auctioned three special-edition NFTs inspired by its most iconic covers in March 2021. A month later, the media house cemented its bond with the crypto space by announcing that It would accept crypto for its 18-month digital subscription. The organization joined hands with Crypto.com to achieve this feat and promised users a 10% cashback offer if they purchased the subscription in digital assets.
