Top memory stocks have soared this year and are among the best performers in the S&P 500 Index. SanDisk stock has soared by 805% this year, while Micron and Western Digital have jumped by 290% and 260%, respectively. Seagate, Kioxia, and SK Hynix have also surged.

Analysts are Boosting Their Micron, Western Digital, and SanDisk Forecasts

These stocks have jumped due to real demand for their memory products. Just last week, Micron published some of the best earnings, noting that its revenue jumped by over 300% in the third quarter. It expects to generate $50 billion in revenue this quarter, much higher than last year.

The other top memory companies have also reported strong earnings and boosted their forward guidance for the year. Indeed, some of them, including SanDisk, have entered multi-year agreements with customers, a move that will help them have consistent revenue growth.

Analysts have also ratcheted up their forecasts for the stocks. In a statement today, Bernstein analysts raised their target for SanDisk shares to $3,000 from $1,700. Citigroup sees the stock rising to $2,500, while Susquehanna expects it to hit $3,250.

Analysts also raised their Micron stock forecasts after its earnings report. DA Davidson and Susquehanna see it rising to $2,000, while Needham predicts that it will jump to $1,650. Top analysts from Cantor Fitzgerald and Morgan Stanley have also hiked their Western Digital forecast.

The general view among analysts is that the business trajectory will continue to grow in the coming months due to the supercycle. They believe, rightly, that memory and chips will continue to go up as the supercycle intensifies.

Wyckoff Theory Points to a Retreat of Memory Stocks

Wyckoff Theory, however, suggests that the bull run may be about to peak. This theory, proposed over 100 years ago, focuses on cycles. It identifies four waves that assets go through: accumulation, markup, distribution, and markdown.

A closer look at SNDK, MU, and WDC stocks shows that they were in a consolidation before the ongoing surge. This consolidation was their accumulation stage.

They then went parabolic, entering the markup phase. This is where most investors get in, and analysts turn extremely bullish. It is then followed by the distribution and markdown phases, where the hype ends and a reversal happens. This process may last a few days or continue for many months.

A closer look at the best performers in the S&P 500 Index over the past few years shows they are now some of its laggards. Two good examples are The Trade Desk and AppLovin, which have dropped by 53% and 25%, respectively, this year.

AppLovin stock jumped by over 700% between August 2024 and February 2025. It then jumped by 265% between April and September 2025. The Trade Desk, on the other hand, more than doubled in 2024, reaching a high of $141. It now trades at $17.87. Palantir stock has had a similar price action.

Therefore, history suggests that these memory stocks will ultimately come back down. What is unclear, however, is when this sell-off will start. Most likely, it will be triggered by signs that memory prices are beginning to decline.
