Anthropic is turning to Wall Street’s biggest banks as it prepares to go public after overtaking OpenAI in valuation. The AI startup behind the Claude AI chatbot has reportedly picked Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs to lead its initial public offering.

Morgan Stanley and Goldman to Lead Anthropic IPO

Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. have been selected as lead underwriters for Anthropic’s IPO, according to Bloomberg. JPMorgan Chase is also joining in the agreement, people familiar with the talks said. More banks could still join the syndicate.

The company has privately registered for a U.S. listing and is eyeing a debut as early as October, the article added. The move suggests that Anthropic is entering the final steps of its path from private unicorn to public market heavyweight, but the timing and structure might yet change.

Anthropic makes the Claude family of AI models and positions itself as a “safety‑first” AI company focused on reliable systems. As it lines up banks, it is also competing with OpenAI to be the first major generative AI lab to go public, according to sources cited by Bloomberg.

Anthropic’s Valuation Now Tops OpenAI

In its latest funding round, Anthropic reached a valuation of about $965 billion, putting it ahead of OpenAI for the first time. Reuters reported that the Series H round raised roughly $65 billion, more than doubling Anthropic’s valuation since February.

CNBC noted that the deal nearly tripled the company’s last valuation and included previously committed capital from major backers. According to the outlet, the round folded into part of a 15-billion-dollar pool of earlier commitments, including funds from Amazon.

As a result, Anthropic now ranks as the world’s most valuable AI startup, ahead of OpenAI’s last reported valuation in the 800 billion dollar range. “Anthropic has emerged as the most valuable artificial intelligence firm in Silicon Valley,” CNBC wrote, after the new valuation became public.

With a near‑trillion‑dollar price tag and Wall Street’s top banks on its IPO ticket, Anthropic is setting up one of the biggest and most closely watched tech offerings in years. The listing could also give public investors a direct way to bet on the race between Anthropic and OpenAI to lead the next phase of AI development.
