Easily the most common crypto game, online video slots usually account for at least 90% of a crypto casino’s gaming library. On most sites, you’ll find anywhere between 3,000 and 10,000 games ranging from classic-style fruit games to high-volatility video slots featuring exciting bonuses, themes, reel mechanics, and jackpots.

Provably Fair Games

A big benefit of crypto casinos is the chance to play provably fair games. These games use special code that lets you check your results. When you start playing, the casino creates a server seed, and your browser or device makes a client seed. After the game ends, you can use both seeds to confirm that the results were fair.

PvP Games

Some crypto casinos are pushing a more recent game format in the casino gaming space – peer-to-peer (PvP). These games bring a competitive player-to-player edge to the table.

  • Gamegram’s Rock Paper Scissors: This game mimics the game many of you played as kids. You stake your crypto and go head-to-head in quickfire matches, with the winner taking the winnings and the bragging rights.
  • PvP Races: You can open a challenge, set a stake, and challenge other players. Other players who match the stake can join in on the challenge, which could be a slot race to see who accumulates the most multipliers. Ultimately, the winner takes all, a concept similar to online poker buy-ins.

The Benefits of Playing Crypto Casino Games

Playing casino games with crypto has some clear benefits. In my experience, games load faster, payments happen quickly, and anonymous crypto casinos help aid with privacy. Since many crypto casinos skip long ID checks, you can often start playing within minutes. You also get to enjoy provably fair games—something regular online casinos usually don’t offer.

Top Cryptocurrency Software Providers

Over the many years I have spent playing at cryptocurrency casinos, I have come to expect certain software providers to be a part of the online slot gaming lobbies.

Here are the 10 software providers I see most often:

  1. Betsoft
  2. Pragmatic Play
  3. BGaming
  4. Nolimit City
  5. KA Gaming
  6. Hacksaw Gaming
  7. Play’n GO
  8. Spinomenal
  9. Yggdrasil
  10. Endorphina

What Bonuses Can You Get at Crypto Casinos?

The vast majority of crypto casinos offer high welcome bonuses, while some will kick-start your casino bankroll with a no-deposit bonus. Moreover, if you continue to deposit, you can claim regular bonuses, which provide you with additional value for your deposits.

Welcome Bonuses

When you make your first deposit, most crypto casinos offer a percentage match on your deposit, plus some also include free spins. For example, you may see a first deposit bonus offering a 100% deposit match up to 1 BTC + 100 free spins. Furthermore, some welcome bonuses span multiple deposits.

Regular Bonuses

Regular bonuses are typically reload bonuses, free spins, cashback on your losses, and rakeback, while high rollers can earn extra perks through the casino’s VIP loyalty status program. Also, look out for gamification bonuses, bonus maps and shops, missions, achievements, and challenges.

No Deposit Bonuses

Some crypto casinos attract players by offering a no-deposit bonus balance or a set number of free spins as a reward for signing up. You don’t need to make a deposit or pass a KYC check to claim these sign-up bonus offers. Most require a bonus code, which you enter during the sign-up process, and others will simply automatically credit your account.

Find the right offer and start playing.

Crypto Casino Bonuses

Cashback / Rakeback

Cashback and rakeback both return a percentage of your losses, but although they function similarly, each one has a unique way of helping you gain a bonus or real-money crypto balance.

  • Cashback: If you happen to hit a losing streak, which, let’s face it, we all have downswings, cashback helps you recover a percentage of your losses on your previous deposits.
  • Rakeback: Instead of returning a percentage of losses on your deposits, rakeback builds up a real money or bonus balance by returning a percentage of the casino’s house edge on all your losing bets. The great thing about rakeback is that it works whether you are on a winning or losing streak.

Reload / Loyalty bonuses

Reloads and loyalty bonuses reward players who make regular deposits and frequently gamble using cryptocurrency from their real money balance.

  • Reload Bonuses: Typically offer bonuses such as a deposit match, free spins, or both. For example, 50% up to 500 USDT + 50 free spins.
  • Loyalty Bonuses: At some cryptocurrency casinos, you may also receive rewards similar to reloads as a level-up reward when you collect enough loyalty points to reach a higher VIP level status.
  • VIP Levels: The higher your VIP level, the better the bonuses and perks the casino will reward you with. Furthermore, loyalty bonus rewards often come with lower wagering requirements compared to regular bonuses.

Wagering Requirements Explained

Wagering requirements tell you how much you need to bet before you can withdraw a bonus. For example, if you get a 50 USDT bonus with a 30x requirement, you must bet 1,500 USDT (50 x 30) before cashing out.

Differences in how Crypto Bonuses are Structured vs Fiat

When it comes to crypto versus fiat currency bonuses, in my experience, cryptocurrency casinos offer more flexible bonus offers, which is one of the many reasons why I switched from fiat currency to crypto casino gaming.

How To Evaluate A Good Bonus

When evaluating a good crypto bonus, key points to consider are the wagering requirements, bonus validity, and bonus games.

  • Wagering Requirements: A good crypto bonus will come with low wagering requirements. The lower the turnover, the higher your chances of converting your bonus balance to withdrawable funds.
  • Deposit Match Percentage: The size of the bonus and the percentage of the deposit match are entirely a matter of personal preference. I’ve seen forum comments where players say they prefer a lower deposit match because it’s easier to convert the bonus balance. In their case, big is not always better.
  • Bonus Expiry: Other points to keep an eye out for are the bonus expiry. The longer the bonus validity, the more time you have to play through your bonus balance.
  • Game Weights: Lastly, always check which games are valid for bonus bets. Most crypto slots will contribute 100% towards wagering, but when you look into the bonus terms, some only contribute 50%, 20%, or 0%. On top of this, not all crypto casinos allow you to use bonus bets on virtual tables or live casino games.

What Makes a Crypto Casino Legit?

Avoiding scam crypto casinos is all about understanding how to spot a legit casino site, for example, checking licensing certificates, website security, and player feedback on the World Wide Web. Below, I will share my strategy for spotting whether an online crypto casino is legit.

Licensing And Regulation

One cardinal rule I have is to never play at a crypto casino that has no online gambling licensing certificate. Therefore, when considering a crypto gambling site, I recommend looking for platforms that operate under a well-known licensing authority, such as:

  • Curacao Gaming Control Board
  • Anjouan Gaming Authority
  • Kahnawake Gaming Commission (KGC)

I prefer the Curacao system simply because, as of 2024, it has evolved from 4 master licenses to a single central authority. It has strict rules in place to oversee operator finances, ensuring that player funds are safe. All gambling websites are required to provide players with an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) option to escalate unresolved complaints for free arbitration.

Provably Fair Systems and How They Work

A provably fair crypto casino uses cryptographic hash algorithms like SHA-256 to ensure that the outcome of every bet is completely transparent and tamper-proof. The result is generated using a combination of a server seed from the casino, a client seed from you, and a nonce. This seed data is hashed and displayed before the game, and then revealed after, so you can verify the result wasn’t manipulated.

Independent RNG Audits and Transparency

If you can’t independently verify your results, then the game will be using an RNG (Random Number Generator), which means you’re relying entirely on trust. However, RNGs are still safe and offer fair and random results, especially if you are playing games from a reputable software provider. Furthermore, all reputable licensing authorities require software providers to produce an RNG audit from a reputable third-party algorithm testing company.

Reputable RNG auditing companies:

  • eCOGRA
  • BMM Testlabs
  • iTech Labs
  • Global Laboratories International
  • QUINEL

SSL Encryption, 2FA, and Wallet Security

Some of the points that are non-negotiable for me when choosing a crypto gambling site are encryption and two-factor authentication. As for wallet security, casinos that offer extra security are a bonus.

  • Encryption: Most importantly, if a site doesn’t have an HTTPS prefix certifying it uses a valid SSL/TLS certificate, I’m out with no exceptions. Encrypted connections between you and the casino’s server are especially important when handling crypto wallet addresses, passwords, and personal info.
  • Two Factor Authentication: I strongly recommend using only crypto casinos that support two-factor authentication (2FA). With 2FA, even if someone gains access to your password, they would also need access to your phone or authenticator app.
  • Wallet Security: Crypto gambling sites that offer wallet whitelisting, withdrawal limits, or optional delay settings get bonus points from me, but they are not critical features I look for.

Red Flags to Avoid

Red flags to look out for include poor terms of service, bonus traps, and a lack of ownership information. Understanding how to spot these flaws will help save you time and money, and prevent you from falling foul of the perils of rogue casinos.

  • Terms of Service: The terms and conditions must be clear, concise, and easily understood. If you notice any discrepancies between the FAQs and other information pages, I advise exercising caution and questioning the professionalism of the casino.
  • Bonus Conditions: A common bonus trap is when some bonuses may look too good to be true. Yet, when you look at the wagering requirements, they are so high that they make it almost impossible to convert a bonus into real money. Another trap comes via the bonus expiry. If it expires after just 1 to 3 days, you may not have sufficient time to fulfill the wagering requirement.
  • Bonus T&Cs: Conflicting terms between the information provided on the promotions page and the bonus rules page can also lead to a bonus trap. If you convert the bonus, the casino could refer to the set of rules that renders your bonus invalid. Therefore, if there are conflicts, give the casino a wide berth.
  • Ownership: Unclear ownership is another red flag. If you play at any KGC or GCB online gambling platform, the ownership is clearly displayed in the T&Cs or the footer. If you don’t know who operates or owns the casino, and your account is suspended and your crypto is taken from you for no reason, you have no legal recourse to have your crypto returned.

What Cryptocurrencies Do Crypto Casinos Accept?

Some crypto casinos only support Bitcoin, but many others let you use dozens—or even over 100—different coins. Some sites stick to popular options like BTC, ETH, and LTC. Others give you more variety by including lots of altcoins. Having so many choices is useful, but not all cryptos are the same. Some are more stable or secure, while others are quicker and cost less to use.

Bitcoin (BTC)

BTC is the default option at most crypto casinos, although it stands out for its security; however, it’s far from the fastest or the cheapest option.

Crypto Casinos and Wallet Support

Many online crypto casinos support multiple wallets and multiple cryptocurrency balances. For example, you could be a member of mBticasino and have balances in BTC, ETH, and USDT.  There are also wallets explicitly designed for a particular blockchain, while most traditional custodial and non-custodial wallets allow you to keep balances in multiple cryptos.

FeatureDescriptionExamples

Multi-Network WalletsWallets that allow you to store multiple cryptocurrenciesBinance Wallet, Crypto.com, TrustWallet

If you are choosing a wallet specifically for crypto gambling, the key decision-making factors you have are:

  • Which cryptocurrency do you want to use to gamble?
  • Which wallet best suits you to deposit and withdraw to the casino?

Remember to base your decision on fees, transaction speeds, and most importantly, convenience for you.

How Do Provably Fair Games Work?

Unlike random number generators, which rely on algorithmic sequences, Provably Fair games use a three-part system that randomly generates game results in real-time after each spin or betting round.

Each result is generated using a server seed, a client seed, and a nonce, with the most commonly used cryptographic code being SHA-256. In this system, the hashed version of the server seed is displayed before you play, and the seed version is revealed afterward, allowing you to verify that the results were fair.

To deliver random results, you can verify the SHA-256 system uses three steps:

ComponentDescription

Server Seed
When you open a provably fair game, the casino generates the server-side seed. The contents of the seed are hidden until your game is over. Therefore, when you open the game, all you can see is a hashed version of the server seed, naturally, so you can’t predict the results. Additionally, once the seed has been created and linked to the client seed, the casino cannot modify it, which prevents cheating through this system.

Client Seed
The client seed is created and linked to the server seed using your web browser or device when you open the game on the casino’s frontend. With that said, some casinos also allow you to create a seed if supported, rotate seeds, or recreate them before you open your next gaming session.

Nonce
The nonce is the third element in the SHA-256 cryptographic process. This system uses a number that increases with every bet to ensure each result is unique. I.e., it ensures the same result doesn’t continue to replicate itself.

After your session is finished, the casino will reveal its server-side seed, allowing you to combine the server seed, client seed, and nonce to verify the results. Some crypto gaming platforms have a built-in tool to check your session results, while others allow you to export the data so you can verify it manually or with third-party tools.

Some of the most popular provably fair games include:

  • Crash: A game where a multiplier increases over time and players must cash out before the line crashes.
  • Dice: Players bet on whether a virtual dice roll will land above or below a certain number.
  • Plinko: A falling-ball game based on a pegged board with randomized drop outcomes.

Some software providers produce provably fair crypto slot games. BGaming, for example, has gained notoriety in the crypto casino space thanks to its popular selection of provably fair online video slots, such as Elvis Frog in Vegas and Book of Cats.

How to Start Gambling with Crypto

Below, I have provided you with my 5-step guide on how to get started with crypto gambling. If you are new to cryptocurrency gambling, getting started is easier than you might think. The industry has come a long way since its early inception. With its continued mass adoption, casinos and wallets have evolved to make buying and transferring crypto a seamless process.

1. Choose a Crypto Wallet

Your first step is to choose between a custodial or non-custodial wallet.

  • Custodial Wallet: If you are a crypto novice, they provide access to customer support services and may come with fiat on-ramps, allowing you to buy crypto using a card, bank transfer, or e-wallet deposits.
  • Non-Custodial: Even as a beginner, you can choose a self-custody wallet, but be aware that you will need to store your seed phrase in a safe location. If you lose your device and lose access to it, you’ll also lose your crypto, as you won’t have access to your funds. Trust me, as I’ve learned from this mistake, but luckily I didn’t lose a fortune; the situation could have been much worse.

2. Buy Cryptocurrency

If your wallet supports fiat-to-cryptocurrency purchases, then the buying process should be straightforward. It is a matter of following the wallet’s fiat deposit and fiat-to-crypto instructions.

  1. Select the cryptocurrency you want to buy
  2. Enter the amount in either fiat or cryptocurrency
  3. Proceed through the secure payment process

If your wallet does not support fiat payments, you can usually find an exchange that allows you to purchase cryptocurrency.

3. Transfer Crypto to Your Wallet

If you used an exchange to purchase crypto, you will need to open your wallet and copy the relevant cryptocurrency wallet address. On the exchange, select ‘Transfer’ or ‘Withdraw’ and paste the copied wallet address as the destination for the transaction. Alternatively, most modern cryptocurrency wallets will have a 2D code you scan from the exchange.

4. Choose a Reputable Crypto Casino

Equipped with the information in this guide, it is time to choose a reputable cryptocurrency casino. Make sure you take into account the top 20 casinos we’ve reviewed at the beginning of this guide, as well as sections above, covering games, bonuses, and how to find a legit casino.

5. Deposit and Start Playing

Once you have chosen a reputable crypto casino, it’s time to move your crypto from your personal wallet to your casino bankroll. Simply copy the casino wallet address for the crypto you plan to deposit, and then follow the ‘Transfer’ or ‘Withdraw’ process on your personal crypto wallet. If your casino has a 2D code, I recommend scanning from your wallet to make the transfer. Once you complete the above steps, you can start playing crypto casino games.

Crypto Gambling vs Fiat Gambling

From my personal experience, the benefits of cryptocurrency gaming outweigh those of fiat currency gaming. As a result, fiat currency gambling is becoming less attractive.

The Key Benefits of Crypto Gambling

Some of the benefits of crypto casinos include faster withdrawal approval times, more privacy compared to fiat currency casinos, and larger bonuses. Additionally, deposit and withdrawal limits are more flexible. Some casinos allow you to deposit up to 1 million USDT, which is ideal for the upper tier of high rollers, also known as whales.

Transaction Speeds

Nothing beats fast withdrawals.

  • Crypto: Firstly, crypto casinos typically have low pending times, ranging from 0 to 1 hour. As for deposits and withdrawals, faster coins like USDT, SOL, and TRX are credited to your crypto wallet in seconds.
  • Fiat Currency: In contrast, fiat casino withdrawal methods, such as bank transfers and cards, can take up to 7 days to be credited to your account, even after the casino has approved the withdrawal. Consequently, even the slower network speeds of crypto like BTC still beat waiting days for fiat currency payout.

Increased Privacy

One of the main advantages of crypto casinos is that it is much easier to deposit, play, and withdraw without having to provide personal documents.

Here’s how they compare to fiat casinos when it comes to KYC:

Crypto Gambling PrivacyFiat Gambling Privacy
No KYC is required for many crypto casinos, particularly those that offer fast and anonymous withdrawalsFiat casino will always ask for a copy of the front and back images of your bank card
When you use a non-custodial wallet, such as MetaMask or Trust Wallet, no KYC checks are requiredYou often need to show proof of e-wallet ownership (e.g., screenshots or bank statements)
You’ll never be asked to prove wallet ownership, even if KYC is requiredWhen you open an e-wallet, bank account, or card, you are required to provide proof of identity, address, and often proof of earnings
Casino transactions do not appear on your bank statements
Your wallet will display the crypto wallet address for your casino, without any names mentioned

As the comparison table between crypto and fiat online gambling shows, cryptocurrency simplifies the privacy process, giving you more control.

Provably Fair

Having access to provably fair games is another plus, as you can verify the results yourself. Provably fair games are not available on fiat-only online casinos.

  • Crypto Casinos: Provably Fair and Random Number Generator algorithms
  • Fiat Casinos: Random number Generators only

Low Transaction Fees

Crypto transaction fees are generally cheaper than fiat currency casinos, especially when it comes to processing withdrawals. However, there are a few caveats to take note of.

  • Deposit Fees: When you deposit fiat currency at a casino using payment methods like Interac or Trustly, the fees are higher compared to most crypto network fees. On the other hand, if you deposit to a fiat casino using a card or e-wallet, there are no fees.
  • Withdrawal Fees: Many fiat withdrawal options charge fees to deposit your winnings from your casino. For example, e-wallets can charge a fee of 1% to 3%. Also, many fiat casinos charge a fee for transaction processing. For the majority of cryptocurrencies, the blockchain network fee is considerably lower.

When paying transaction fees, neither crypto nor fiat currency casinos apply charges. The fees will always come via the financial medium you use. Therefore, whether you choose fiat or crypto is ultimately down to your personal preferences and the availability of payment methods in your region.

Risks and Challenges of Crypto Gaming

Crypto casino gaming is far from risk-free or without challenges, with issues like irreversible transactions and the volatility of cryptocurrencies often cited as some of the biggest. It’s not as newcomer-friendly as you’d hope, either, with new players frequently left overwhelmed with the different currencies, networks, and wallets to choose from.

Crypto Volatility

One of the biggest issues is that most cryptocurrencies are highly volatile. Your casino balance can change in value while it’s in your casino balance. What you thought you won yesterday could be less when you log into your account today.

Learning Curve

Not everyone is a crypto whizz who has a strong grasp of the different cryptocurrencies, networks, private keys, and crypto wallets. Anyone new to crypto gaming may find it tough to adapt.

Irreversible Transactions

If you enter the wrong wallet address when depositing at a crypto casino, your funds are gone. Transactions are completely irreversible. Always double and triple-check an address before sending.

Why Consider Fiat Crypto Gambling?

Many players consider fiat casino gambling because they are familiar with the payment options and currencies. Furthermore, fiat casinos will appeal to those who prefer currency stability, as opposed to the volatile price fluctuations often seen with cryptocurrencies.

On a personal level, I enjoy both forms of online gambling and can see the benefits and drawbacks of each. Fiat casinos generally offer stronger player protection and adhere to stricter regulations, while there is no shortage of quality online casinos to play at. That said, you won’t know for sure whether you’ll enjoy crypto gaming until you try it.

Cryptocurrency gambling is generally legal in most countries where cryptocurrencies are regulated. Still, the laws can be ambiguous in some jurisdictions, and therefore, you may need clarification on whether cryptocurrency gambling is legal. Below, I’ve outlined international laws while also referring to specific countries that use domestic licensing authorities.

Licensing and Use of Crypto Casinos by Country

Under international laws, the general rule of thumb is that you can gamble online using crypto in countries where cryptocurrencies are legal. In many jurisdictions, cryptocurrencies and online gambling operate in a gray area because one or both are unregulated. In some cases, a Bitcoin casino will be VPN friendly.

CountryCrypto Casino Licensing Insight
United StatesThere’s no broad federal licence for crypto casinos in the US — legal online casino licensing is state-by-state, and many allow online gambling; offshore crypto casino use is common where local licences aren’t available
CanadaCanada’s regulated online casino markets are provincial, with places like Ontario operating licensed gambling; players may also use offshore crypto casino platforms, but provincially licensed sites offer clearer legal frameworks.
AustraliaAustralia’s Interactive Gambling Act generally prohibits online casino operators from offering services to residents, though players can access offshore sites; licensed options focus on compliance, and reputable regulators help protect players where available.
IndiaIndia doesn’t have a uniform national licence for online casinos — laws vary by state — so crypto casino use is legally complex; licensed operators in some states provide the clearest compliance pathway while offshore sites are still used.
United KingdomUK crypto casinos are available through reputable licensed operators. Compliant platforms help protect players even if crypto functionality is limited. Players often use offshore-licensed options while licensed UK casinos offer stronger safeguards.
European UnionThere is no single EU-wide gambling licence — online gambling is regulated at the member-state level. Many EU countries operate licensing regimes that require consumer protection, AML, and KYC standards. Crypto casinos often rely on licences from EU jurisdictions such as Malta, but legality depends on each player’s country of residence.
New ZealandNew Zealand does not currently license local online casinos, but it is legal for residents to use offshore platforms. The government is moving toward a regulated licensing system for online casinos, which is expected to introduce consumer protection and AML requirements for approved operators.

Canada is perhaps one of the most controversial, as each province and territory regulates online gambling independently. As there is no federal law that prevents players from using offshore gambling sites, crypto casinos that accept Canadian players operate in a gray zone.

  • British Columbia and Alberta: Both provinces have government-run online casino platforms. However, strictly speaking, online gambling on overseas sites is not illegal, but instead frowned upon by regulators and government officials. Yet, many citizens of these provinces still gamble at overseas crypto gaming platforms.

Countries With Domestic Licensing Authorities

Where crypto gambling is generally frowned upon is in countries that have chosen to regulate online casinos, or they have banned online casino gaming altogether.

CountryCryptocurrency LegislationOnline Casino GamblingAre Overseas Crypto Casinos Legal?

USA

Overall, although countries with domestic licensing and those that do not offer online casino licensing do not allow cryptocurrency casinos to legally offer citizens online gambling services, there are generally no laws that would lead to citizens being prosecution for gambling using crypto at an overseas crypto casino.

How to Stay Safe While Gambling with Crypto

The best way to stay safe when gambling with crypto is to understand the risks involved and how to avoid them. I’ve already covered the many perks of crypto gambling, but it only takes one mistake to lose your funds. The best Bitcoin casino sites will have safety as the top priority.

Here are some practical tips I follow to stay safe while playing at crypto casinos:

Stick to Reputable Crypto Casinos

To avoid scams and ensure fair gameplay, always stick to reputable crypto casinos that are licensed, well-reviewed, and transparent about their payment and security practices. As you can see from my list of recommendations, there are many trustworthy crypto casinos.

To ensure that all these casinos are trustworthy, I will walk you through some of the steps I take below.

Identifying scam sites and avoiding phishing attacks

Worried about online scams? Here’s how to identify fake gambling sites and avoid phishing attacks that could compromise your personal and financial information. Our crypto casino blacklist is also a great resource for checking which crypto casinos have been flagged as scams.

  • Check the licensing: Make sure the licensing certificate at the bottom of the casino is clickable. You should also check directly with the licensing authority, which will also give you the correct website URL.
Licensing Authority Website
Curacao Gaming Control (GCB)Curaçao Gaming Authority’s License Register
Anjouan Gaming (COMOS)Anjouan License Register
Kahnawake Gaming Commission (KGC) Permit Holders Page
  • Look for casino reviews: Find reviews and player comments to make sure you have the correct URL for the casino. For example, you can check our top 20 list above.
  • Check that you have the correct URL: You can use casino review, recommended casinos here on this page, or the licensing authority regulating the casino.
  • HTTPS: Ensure the site uses the HTTPS protocol as the prefix for the URL. By doing this, you confirm the site uses encryption.
  • Test Customer Support: Test their support via live chat or email. Fast, helpful responses are a good sign.
  • Check the Operator Name: If your crypto casino uses the Curacao GCB licensing system, you can check the operator’s status via the Curacao Chamber of Commerce & Industry website. For casinos operating under the Anjouan and KGC licensing systems, you can refer to their licensing pages on their respective websites.

Use Secure Crypto Wallets

To keep your funds safe when gambling online, it’s crucial to use a secure crypto wallet that protects against hacks or phishing attacks.

  • Choose a reputable wallet: There are many well-known wallets to choose from. MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Ledger, Trezor, Coinbase,  Binance Wallet, Crypto.com and Kraken are just a few reputable wallets that come with excellent reputations.
  • Choose wallets with local financial licensing: In countries where crypto is regulated, you will often find country-specific wallets.
  • Custodial Vs non-Custodial: Choose whether you prefer to control your private key via a custodial wallet or if you are happy for a non-custodial wallet service to store your private key on your behalf.
  • Read Crypto Wallet Reviews: Always read wallet reviews before choosing the one that you feel is most secure for your situation.

Enable 2FA on Casino Accounts

Many reputable crypto casinos offer two-factor authentication. In addition to using your account password to log in, you can also receive a one-time code sent to your phone via SMS or set up the Google Authenticator tool.

Use Privacy Coins for Increased Anonymity

If privacy is your top priority, consider using privacy-focused coins like Monero. These cryptocurrencies have privacy-enhancing features that hide your transaction details. Dash and ZCash are two other options, assuming you can find a crypto casino that supports them.

Are Crypto Gambling Winnings Taxed?

Crypto gambling winnings may be treated as income or capital gains or could be exempt from taxation altogether, depending on your tax residency status.

Disclaimer: This is not financial or tax advice. Always consult a licensed tax professional in your region.

Regional Tax Treatment Summary

It is important that you check whether your country taxes crypto gambling winnings to ensure you remain legally compliant when gambling online using crypto. In the table, I have provided examples of how the USA, the UK, and countries subject to European Union taxation laws are taxed.

RegionCrypto Gambling Tax Treatment
United StatesTaxable (You must report winnings to the IRS)
United KingdomNot Taxable (Gambling winnings are tax free)
The Republic of IrelandNot Taxable (Gambling winnings are tax free)
European UnionTaxable & Not Taxable(Some EU countries tax winnings)
CanadaNot taxed if gambling is recreational. (Taxable if you are a professional gambler)
AustraliaNot taxed if gambling is recreational. (Taxable if you are a professional gambler)
New ZealandNot taxed if gambling is recreational. (Taxable if you are a professional gambler)

Tax Returns

Research these steps to make sure  your stay compliant and potentially reduce taxable liability:

  • Maintain a record of all wins and losses.
  • Save transaction receipts, withdrawal confirmations, and betting histories.
  • Use a spreadsheet or a gambling tracking app.
  • Understand the system your country uses to tax gambling transactions.
  • If taxed as capital gains, you will need to understand the taxation method used.
  • Look to see if gambling losses are tax-deductible.

Even if you believe your crypto gambling winnings are exempt from tax, I strongly recommend consulting a qualified tax advisor to avoid any potential legal issues. You can then ensure full compliance with your local tax laws.

Crypto Casino Payment Methods Explained

A key advantage of gambling with crypto is the wide variety of payment options at your disposal.

I’m not only referring to the number of cryptos you can choose from, but also the wallets, blockchain networks, and third-party payment solutions.

Top crypto gambling sites will have wallet integration as a key component of their site.

Crypto Wallets

Essentially, the two choices you have when choosing a wallet are custodial (self-custody) versus non-custodial. Some offer more secure offline storage and complete control over private keys. In contrast, others, such as non-custodial wallets, manage your private keys online, but can also be more vulnerable to hacks.

Let’s take a closer look at the different types of crypto wallets:

Wallet TypeYou Control KeysInternet RequiredSecurityUser Convenience
Custodial WalletMedium✅ Easy to use
Non-Custodial WalletHigh (if secured)⚠ Must manage keys
Hot Wallet✅ / ❌Lower (online risk)✅ Instant access
Cold Wallet✅ Highest❌ Less convenient

For advanced crypto enthusiasts, I recommend storing the bulk of your crypto portfolio in an offline wallet while using custodial or non-custodial services for your day-to-day transactions.

As for my personal wallet recommendations:

  • MetaMask: Some Web3-enabled crypto casino platforms allow you to connect your MetaMask wallet directly to play or sign up. Just note it works best with Ethereum-based and compatible blockchains, not Bitcoin or Solana.
  • TrustWallet: My go-to self-custody wallet. It supports a broader range of blockchains and cryptos, including Bitcoin and the BNB Chain.
  • Ledger: My number one for cold storage. You will need to research the various hardware options available before purchasing your Ledger device.

Crypto wallets can be complex, always complete your research before signing up.

Payment Networks

The network where your crypto is stored determines transaction speed and fees. Since the birth of Bitcoin in 2009, we have seen the evolution of blockchain ecosystems.

  • Faster Transaction Speeds: New blockchain ecosystems have focused on faster transaction times.
  • Convenient cash-to-crypto Solutions: Exchanges and fiat on-ramp and off-ramp systems can support trading as well as converting crypto-to-crypto, crypto-to-cash, and cash-to-crypto.

Bitcoin Lightning Network

Layer 2 – Fast & Low Fees

A layer-2 scaling solution, Bitcoin Lightning drastically cuts down BTC transaction times by taking them off the main blockchain. Think of the network like a highway built on top of the regular Bitcoin blockchain, which drastically reduces transaction fees and completion times.

Solana

Fast & Affordable

One of the fastest and most affordable chains around, making it ideal for crypto transactions. Transactions take no longer than 5 seconds and usually cost under $0.01.

TRON

Fast Transaction using Stablecoin

Popular for casino transactions, especially those for USDT across TRC-20. Fees are reasonable, averaging under $1, and transactions consistently complete within one to two minutes.

Ethereum

Fast Transactions, but can be pricey

A secure and widely supported network. However, fees can spike drastically when the network is congested. That makes it a good option for larger transactions, but it may not be ideal for those who regularly make smaller deposits.

Fiat On and Off Ramp Solutions

Fast Transactions, convenient, with reasonable fees

If you’re new to crypto and don’t want to source your crypto from exchanges, fiat on-ramp and off-ramp services are a great alternative. The transaction times to swap your crypto to or from fiat on these platforms are instantaneous.

Third-party fiat on and off-ramp services:

  • MoonPay
  • Ramp
  • Changelly
  • Transak

Benefits of Fast Settlement Times For Crypto Gamblers

Faster crypto settlement times that specifically allow for instant withdrawals from crypto to casinos, quicker access to winnings, and reduced deposit times.

BenefitWhy Does It Help You?
Instant Access to WinningsYou can use the winnings immediately
Better Cash Flow ControlEasier bankroll management with near real-time updates
Lower Risk of VolatilityMinimizes the impact of crypto price fluctuations
Transparent TransactionsQuick confirmations reduce uncertainty or disputes
Faster WithdrawalsEnhances trust and satisfaction
Efficient Bonus RedemptionBonus to real crypto conversions is more fluid
Fast DepositsQuicker to top up your balance while mid-session

Buying Crypto at a Casino

As well as depositing with crypto, some casinos also let players buy crypto directly on the platform. This is increasingly common at crypto-focused casinos and helps users get started without needing a separate exchange account.

  • The process is usually straightforward and includes:
  • Choosing a “buy crypto” or on-ramp option in the cashier
  • Selecting your currency and payment method (card, bank transfer, or local methods)
  • Completing a quick payment and receiving the crypto in your casino wallet

While convenient, these services can include higher fees and may involve identity checks from the payment provider. It’s worth comparing rates and understanding any limits before buying.

Crypto Gambling Terms Explained

For new online casino players, the terms and jargon does not need to alienate.

Here’s an easy-to-read glossary of some of the most common terms you might hear on your crypto casino journey.

  • Provably Fair Casinos: A cryptographic algorithm that ensures game/spin results are fair and verifiable. Popular in some crypto slots and various crash and dice games.
  • RTP (Return-to-Player): Shows the average payout percentage of a casino game over time. For instance, a slot with a 96% RTP will pay out over time, $96 from every $100 it receives.
  • Smart Contract Casino: A smart contract casino uses blockchain-based contracts to automate bets and payouts without relying on a central authority.
  • Gas Fee: These are the network fees charged on blockchain networks to compensate for the computing power needed to process transactions. Gas fees fluctuate depending on the network’s activity level and the complexity of the transaction.
  • mBTC: A subunit of Bitcoin equal to one-thousandth of a BTC (0.001 BTC). Casinos often use the subunit to make BTC amounts easier to read.
  • Cold Wallet: An offline crypto wallet that’s best suited for storing large quantities of cryptocurrency. Examples of cold wallets are USB-style devices and paper wallets.
  • Hot Wallet: Unlike cold wallets, hot wallets are stored online and are perfect for everyday use. However, they’re more vulnerable to phishing attacks and malware, so not as safe as their offline counterparts.
  • KYC: An abbreviation for Know Your Customer, KYC is an Identity verification process performed by a casino. Usually carried out when players request a withdrawal, the process requires players to upload government-issued ID and proof of address.
  • Crypto Faucet: An online platform or program that rewards a small amount of free cryptocurrency in return for performing an action. For example, you might receive crypto when creating an account or playing a specific game.

Final Thoughts

Over the past ten years, I’ve seen crypto gambling grow and change. Today, thanks to cryptocurrencies, online gambling has become faster, more private, and more diverse. There are now many crypto casinos, online casino games, and wallets that let you play with speed and keep your data secure.

You’ll find thousands of crypto casino games, from slots and live dealer tables to crash games and sports betting. One big reason players like crypto casinos is the use of provably fair technology. Crash games lead the way, but some providers like BGaming also use this system for slots. This trend is growing fast.

Before joining any casino, make sure to check the wagering rules, KYC process, license, and withdrawal times. These points matter just as much as the game selection.

If you want a great place to start, check out BC.Game, Cryptorino, 7Bit Casino, or betpanda. They offer lots of games, support many cryptos, and pay out quickly. If you’re new, Gamegram is a good pick for provably fair games. For more advanced users, Jackbit is a solid choice with both trading and casino features.

Finally, always gamble responsibly. Set a budget, stick to it, and remember that crypto values can go up or down—so play smart.
