Archivas is preparing to launch a storage intelligence layer designed specifically for BNB Chain to address growing challenges with node storage and improve data availability for users and developers. This new infrastructure aims to enable more efficient, scalable, and cost-effective storage operations on one of the leading blockchain ecosystems.

Resolving Storage Bottlenecks on BNB Chain

Over the last 18 months, BNB Chain’s node storage needs have increased by about 50%, from 2.49TB in December 2023 to roughly 3.72TB by June 2025. Node sync durations have increased to more than 13 hours due to rapid growth in data storage requirements, hampering node operators and impacting network decentralisation.

By utilising its Proof of Space and Time (PoST) technology and distributed storage protocols, Archivas aims to address these problems by developing a specialised intelligence layer that streamlines data synchronisation and retrieval.

By avoiding the inefficiencies of downloading and validating large blockchain databases, this layer will enable incremental snapshots. Archivas aims to easily interact with current BNB Chain node topologies, enabling operators to reduce storage overhead and bandwidth use while still fully adhering to consensus standards.

Enhancing Usability and Developer Experience

The storage intelligence layer of Archivas aims to improve application performance for decentralised apps (DApps) running on BNB Chain, alongside infrastructure enhancements. Faster access to history and state data will help developers with creative use cases, including complicated smart contract interactions, AI-powered analytics, and the expanding NFT market.

Strong storage solutions like Archivas are essential to maintaining this growth trajectory without sacrificing network stability or decentralisation as BNB Chain works to enable higher transaction throughput, aiming for over 20,000 transactions per second with sub-150 millisecond finality by 2026.

To better optimise blockchain data management, the storage layer also plans to incorporate additional features, including online state pruning and trapdoor data structures.

The expansion of storage capabilities aligns with BNB Chain’s vision to bridge traditional finance and Web3, supporting a broad range of users from institutional clients to individual developers. This initiative strengthens BNB Chain’s position among competing Layer-1 blockchains by focusing not only on speed but also on scalable, practical data solutions.
