NEAR Protocol price dropped 6.01% over 24 hours, printing a session low of $1.36 as a technical breakdown landed squarely inside the worst macro session for crypto in over a week. The NEAR coin lost the $1.42 support level on heavy volume, following Bitcoin’s performance, which fell 4.57% on the same day, and its seven-day streak of ETF inflows snapped with a $129 million net outflow on March 18. That was the first daily exit in the run, and risk appetite dried up fast.

NEAR Protocol Tracks Bitcoin Lower as Fed Holds Firm

The Federal Reserve held rates steady at its March meeting but refused to soften its inflation language, reinforcing a higher-for-longer posture that sent risk assets lower across the board. NEAR crypto absorbed the pressure with greater force, as its 6% decline ran well ahead of Bitcoin’s price move, consistent with how high-beta altcoins behave when macro sentiment sours.

What made the timing awkward was the contrast with the fundamental picture. NEAR Intents crossed 20 million total swaps on March 16, a milestone that analyst Michaël van de Poppe highlighted as evidence of genuine ecosystem traction. He claims to remain long the asset, framing the AI Agent economy as early-stage and structurally undervalued.

On that same thread, NEAR Intents recently added confidential intents; agents can now transact across commercial activity with account-level privacy while execution stays verifiable. The thesis behind it is hard to argue with: agents operating at scale expose pricing models, competitive positioning, and business relationships unless privacy is built into the infrastructure.

Near Protocol positions itself as the unified commerce layer that solves exactly that. Unfortunately, none of it stopped sellers on Thursday.

NEAR Price Loses Key Support on Heavy Volume

NEAR Protocol coin price broke below the daily pivot point at $1.41 and sliced through the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement at $1.38. Trading volume jumped more than 50% to $251 million, and when volume surges to that level, follow-through tends to run.

Analyst Cryptorphic1 had flagged the rising wedge on the 4-hour chart before the break, pointing out that declining volume during the wedge formation had already signaled buyer momentum was fading. With $1.42 now lost, the next structural level the crypto analyst identifies sits near $1.20.

Any NEAR price prediction that stays constructive near-term needs to see $1.41 reclaimed first. That’s the level that flips the immediate structure back to neutral. Short-term momentum is bearish, and the 50%-plus volume spike on the way down makes it clear that sellers were deliberate.

Bitcoin price holding above $70,000 remains the cleaner watch point for broader altcoin relief. If that floor stabilizes, the macro drag that punished NEAR crypto Thursday might ease, and the Intents ecosystem narrative may get room to be heard.
