The Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) by Chainlink is now compatible with Optimism’s SuperchainERC20 standard. This enables seamless asset transfers across the rapidly expanding Superchain ecosystem.

The integration, first deployed on the Soneium blockchain via Astar Network’s ASTR token, marks a critical step toward unifying liquidity and user experience across Ethereum, Optimism, and Polkadot networks.

The collaboration between Chainlink, Astar Network, and Optimism was announced on June 11, 2025. It positions ASTR as the first token to achieve full compatibility with both SuperchainERC20 and Chainlink CCIP.

This dual integration allows ASTR—the native token of Astar Network’s Polkadot-based layer-1 blockchain—to move fluidly across Optimism’s Superchain networks. The chains include Base, OP Mainnet, and the upcoming World Chain.

Chainlink Collaboration’s Value For Developers and Users

For developers, the integration streamlines the development of multi-chain applications. Astar’s Phase 1.5 upgrade allows projects to deploy SuperchainERC20-compatible tokens. This automatically gains cross-chain functionality once Optimism’s interop layer goes live.

Meanwhile, users will benefit from

  • Two-Click Transfers: Once Superchain interoperability launches, moving ASTR between chains will require just two clicks, bypassing complex bridging processes.
  • Unified Liquidity: Capital efficiency improves dramatically. $1 million locked on one chain can facilitate activity across all Superchain networks, versus the siloed liquidity of today.
  • Expanded Utility: ASTR transitions from a single-network token to a multi-chain asset. This enables it to be usable in DeFi, gaming, and creative economies across Ethereum, Polkadot, and beyond.

What’s Ahead?

This milestone is part of Optimism’s three-stage roadmap to unify its 29 OP Stack chains, which collectively handle 36.4% of all layer-2 transactions. The next phases will roll out a shared message-passing protocol and a fault-tolerant system, further solidifying Superchain as a borderless ecosystem.

For Astar Network, the integration bridges Polkadot and Ethereum, two historically siloed ecosystems, while showcasing how CCIP can connect EVM and non-EVM chains. Developers anticipate similar integrations for other tokens, potentially unlocking trillion-dollar liquidity across decentralized finance (DeFi).

By merging SuperchainERC20’s standardization with CCIP’s security, the partnership sets a blueprint for scalable, user-friendly interoperability.
