Coinbase is preparing to roll out one of its most ambitious derivatives products yet. This is a futures offering that combines BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) with major U.S. tech stocks and more.
The Mag7 + Crypto Equity Index Futures—debuts on September 22, 2025. It will be the first U.S.-listed derivative to provide seamless exposure to both leading equities and cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds within a single contract.
Coinbase Mag7 + Crypto Equity Index
Coinbase’s new product will track the “Magnificent 7” tech stocks (Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Nvidia, Meta, and Tesla), Coinbase’s own stock, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), and iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA), with each of the ten components weighted equally at 10%. This structure ensures that exposure is diversified, enabling investors to capture returns from both traditional equity markets and the fast-evolving world of digital assets in one capital-efficient contract.
The index—administered by MarketVector Indexes—will be rebalanced quarterly, helping maintain equal weighting as market conditions shift. Contracts will be monthly and cash-settled, with each one representing $1 multiplied by the value of the index. This enables not just institutions but soon also retail investors to access a turnkey gateway to multiple market sectors with just one product.
A significant aspect of the new offering is its inclusion of BlackRock’s IBIT. It represents mainstream institutional interest in Bitcoin and has rapidly become one of the most traded crypto ETFs worldwide. The bundle of assets in the index demonstrates Coinbase’s bold vision. It aims unite the strengths of legacy finance (Wall Street’s top equities), institutional adoption (crypto ETFs), and native digital assets under a regulated U.S. exchange mode,
The launch comes during record-breaking crypto derivatives volumes. This includes Coinbase reporting daily derivatives activity consistently above $5 billion and peak days approaching $10 billion. Institutions will have initial access to the Mag7 + Crypto Equity Index Futures, with plans for retail rollout underway. In a competitive nod, Kraken recently launched a rival platform, underscoring the rapid escalation in U.S. crypto derivatives innovation.
By bridging leading ETFs such as BlackRock’s IBIT with technology stalwarts and its own stock, Coinbase is setting a precedent for diversified, regulated exposure to the future of finance.
