CME Group and FanDuel have announced a partnership to launch a new prediction markets platform this December.
The initiative, named “FanDuel Predicts,” aims to bridge traditional derivatives trading and event-based speculation, with broad availability through a standalone app.
FanDuel Enables Financial and Economic Event Contracts
FanDuel Predicts will provide U.S. customers the ability to trade contracts not only on global sports outcomes, such as baseball, basketball, football, and hockey but also on the results of economic indicators, financial indexes, energy prices, and cryptocurrencies. In states where online sports betting remains prohibited, customers can engage with sports-related predictions as a legal alternative to traditional wagering.
Benchmark-based contracts will cover S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 indexes, oil and gas prices, gold, select cryptocurrencies, and economic events including GDP and CPI data releases. All contracts range in price from $0.01 to $0.99, letting users buy, sell, or manage exposure in micro-increments akin to trading futures or options, but with direct payout linked to real-world outcomes.
User Protection and Market Education
The platform will launch with enhanced consumer protection tools, including deposit limits, self-exclusion features, spending trackers, and access to educational resources explaining prediction market mechanics and responsible trading practices. FanDuel’s “Know Your Customer” onboarding standard requires users to submit identity verification and banking information before accessing the service.
CME Group, which brings its expertise in regulated derivatives and market risk management, will provide technology for pricing, clearing, and settlement of contracts, aiming to give millions of FanDuel’s users firsthand engagement with event-driven market participation. As new states legalize online sports betting, FanDuel Predicts will adjust offerings, ceasing sports event contracts in those regions and expanding financial event selection.
The collaboration signals a major step forward in merging entertainment, financial markets, and regulated access to prediction contracts for U.S. customers. FanDuel Predicts is expected to reach a broad audience across states and is poised to increase the visibility of event contract trading nationwide by leveraging CME Group’s trusted infrastructure alongside FanDuel’s extensive user base.
