Revolut, a popular e-wallet and digital bank that also offers crypto trading, suffered a breach, in which the data of over 50,000 customers may have been compromised, CoinDesk wrote.
The incident occurred in Lithuania
Last week, Revolut informed the State Data Protection Inspectorate (VDAI) of Lithuania about an incident, in which cybercriminals used phishing to access its database.
The damage from the breach could extend to the information of 50,150 customers, of whom 20,687 were in the European Economic Area (EEA), including names, physical addresses, and email addresses. According to Revolut, this comprises less than 1% of its total users.
A spokesperson for Revolut stated via email:
We immediately identified and isolated the attack to effectively limit its impact and have contacted those customers affected.
Revolut, which provides exposure to around 80 cryptocurrencies, has more than 20 million customers globally. Crypto trading makes up about a tenth of Revolut's annual revenue, which was $300 million in 2020.
