The popularity of crypto ATMs has increased in recent years. In 2015, there were only 329 crypto ATMs in operation worldwide. However, this number had increased to 1,932 by the end of 2017, and by mid-2022, there were 37,800 crypto ATMs in operation worldwide.

Although there are crypto ATMs all over the world, the majority of them are located in the US. The second largest location for crypto access is Europe. With this in mind, we review how many crypto ATMs are available per square mile in your city.

How Many Crypto ATMs in the World?

Crypto ATMs allow users to exchange their Bitcoin for fiat money. These unique ATMs employ blockchain-based transactions to deliver crypto to a user's digital wallet, frequently using a QR code.

The number of cryptocurrency ATMs has dramatically increased since January 2017. In September 2020, there were less than 10,000 ATMs worldwide; since then, the number of crypto ATMs has grown exponentially.

Currently, there are 39,011 crypto ATMs spread across the globe.

Jonathan Merry, CEO of Bankless Times, comments:

“When crypto ATMs first appeared on the scene, they provided an air of tangibility to the burgeoning all-digital market. In fact, the installation of cryptocurrency ATMs has grown at an absolutely phenomenal rate over the past two years. There is no denying that this is a remarkable growth story, and we are likely to see more crypto ATM installations in major cities and beyond in the near future as crypto adoption increases.”
