Bankless Times talked to Tim Delhaes, the serial entrepreneur behind Grindery and a Binance Labs S4 company, about the benefits of creating user-friendly, non-custodial wallets that seamlessly integrate within Telegram and other social media.

In Q4 2023, Grindery became the leading EVM Smart Wallet for Telegram with over a million transactions in the same period and the world's most deployed account abstraction (ERC-4337) wallet.

Mr. Delhaes, why did you found Grindery?

I have always been fascinated by making complex technology easy to use. That is what we set out to do with Grindery. Find ways to give crypto daily utility. For everyone.

What recent developments in the crypto space are you most passionate about?

Account abstraction, particularly with ERC-4337 and the anticipated RIP-7560, is a game-changer. It simplifies user experience by eliminating the need for private keys and managing gas tokens, paving the way for seamless automation integration. This innovation will usher in a new generation of dApps, expanding the horizon of possibilities in the blockchain ecosystem.

What is the most exciting thing about the future of Web3?

The introduction of standards like ERC-4337 and RIP-7560 can propel Web3 into a pivotal market cycle. These advancements offer a bridge to mainstream adoption, transforming the way we interact with digital assets and decentralized applications. Account abstraction can help to push web3 over the chasm.

What are the advantages of smart wallets?

Smart wallets revolutionize the user experience by removing the intricacies of managing private keys and gas tokens. They're not just about simplifying transactions; they're about redefining the user interface to be as intuitive as online shopping, paving the way for widespread adoption.

What are some ways in which smart wallets can improve?

The evolution of smart wallets requires us to step out of conventional thinking. Instead of viewing them merely as digital banking apps, we should see them as keys to the expansive world of Web3. The future lies in making them user-friendlier and less noticeable, integrating seamlessly into our digital lives.

Telegram is a case in point. While it boasts a large and active user base, the experience for interacting with EVM dApps is far from ideal. Users are forced to choose between risky reliance on bots with their private keys and passwords and inconvenient web exits, leaving Telegram entirely to sign transactions through web interfaces like MetaMask.

Intuitive, non-custodial wallets would allow users to transact crypto directly within Telegram, eliminating the need to switch between apps or platforms. It would also mean users can enjoy non-custodial security, maintaining complete control over their private keys.
