The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has unveiled a new vision for the future of Ethereum, releasing a strategic roadmap titled “The Future of Ecosystem Development at the EF.” The document outlines four pivotal focus areas, Ecosystem Acceleration, Ecosystem Amplification, Ecosystem Support, and Long-Term Ecosystem Unblocking, aimed at guiding Ethereum’s evolution as the world’s leading blockchain platform.

The latest strategy is a response to the rapidly expanding interest in Ethereum, which now attracts not only developers and crypto enthusiasts but also enterprises, governments, and everyday users seeking practical blockchain solutions.

It has a dual mission to maximize the number of people who benefit from Ethereum’s core values and ensure the resilience of Ethereum’s technical and social infrastructure.

Ethereum Foundation Core Elements of Ecosystem Development

Four key pillars are crucial to the ecosystem’s development: ecosystem acceleration, ecosystem amplification, ecosystem support, and long-term ecosystem unblocking.

EF is launching dedicated teams to accelerate the adoption and development of Ethereum. These teams will work closely with enterprises, developers, app teams, and founders.

This acceleration effort leverages the existing deep pool of community members, L2s, accelerators, hackathon organizers, investors, and educators to supercharge growth and remove bottlenecks for real-world use.

While acceleration focuses on direct support, amplification is about scaling the impact of these efforts. EF will track ecosystem growth, run targeted events, and leverage media and AI tools.

These amplification initiatives aim to make Ethereum’s progress visible and accessible, ensuring that the ecosystem’s growth is not just fast but also widely recognized and celebrated.

EF is restructuring its grant and support programs to provide more strategic, targeted assistance, including grants, Launchpad Initiative, and strategic funding.

In Q1 2025 alone, EF distributed over $32 million in grants across 101 projects, with a strong emphasis on education, developer experience, cryptography, and zero-knowledge proofs. This support extends to individuals, DAOs, nonprofits, and academic institutions worldwide.

Beyond short-term requirements, the Ethereum Foundation is funding projects that address structural obstacles to Ethereum’s widespread adoption, such as the academic secretariat, institutional secretariat, and policy coordination.

These long-term initiatives aim to ensure that Ethereum remains flexible, compliant, and at the forefront of innovation, despite changes in the legal and technological landscape.

EF aims to ensure that Ethereum not only scales technically but also remains a resilient, worldwide, human-centered platform for the upcoming wave of digital money and decentralized apps by focusing on acceleration, amplification, support, and unblocking.
