Thinking of your employees? How to make it so
As a business owner, there come many different responsibilities of things you need to do and keep a track of. Running your business requires you to spin a lot of plates at the same time, but it can also make you less aware of the business environment and that can be your downfall, especially if you have people working for you. I wanted to share with you some of the ways you can think of your employees and how you can make that happen.
Think about the health and safety aspect
One of the first things you need to think about would be the health and safety aspect of the environment in which you have people working in. This is so that you can ensure their well being and safety at all times. Having a master of public safety document in place can help you to achieve this. Doing this plus regular risk assessments will help you to keep on track of any changes within the environment that may need your focus and attention. Happy staff in their work means more productivity.
Incentivise them to keep them motivated
Another way to keep staff moving would be to incentivise them to help keep them motivated. People love to know if they can do anything to help increase earnings or feel their competitive nature can come out when there is the opportunity to win something so why not incorporate this mentality into the workforce? It could be a great way to incentivise and motivate staff on the days that perhaps they may not want to be at work. This could be a bank holiday or a weekend, for example.
Be approachable and a good listener
Maybe you need to work on your own people skills to ensure that you can make the working environment better for you and your staff. You perhaps need to think about being approachable, so that staff can feel they can talk to you about their concerns or provide any feedback. But you also need to be able to listen. Otherwise, people just won’t want to get involved or work with you. While these skills are not necessarily something you can learn, there are ways you can improve them and actively do your best to make some positive changes.
Think of the working environment
Finally, make sure that you think about the working environment in other ways and not just from the angle of safety. This means that your staff feel comfortable working in there so that the temperature is regulated and is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. You also need to think about things like having access to water easily, a fridge to store food or even kitchen facilities if you can accommodate them. These things may seem small, but actually, you can make the world of difference to your staff which will then help them to work more productively.
I hope that these tips help you to consider the welfare of your employees.
