  • He thinks an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans
  • ChatGPT was developed by left-leaning experts, who trained the chatbots to lie

Elon Musk announced he would build TruthGPT, his own version of an artificial intelligence chatbot, during an exclusive interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News.

The CEO of Twitter and Tesla talked about why he wanted an alternative to ChatGPT, which he helped fund initially, and his greater concerns about how AI can impact freedom of information.

Creating a truth-seeking AI

Musk said:

I'm going to start something which I call TruthGPT, or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe. I think this might be the best path to safety in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe.

ChatGPT was taken away from Musk

According to Carlson, ChatGPT was “taken away” from Musk although he helped fund it, and it’s currently owned by Microsoft and Google. Musk has always believed AI could destroy everything unless restrictive measures were placed on it. He has said it can be just as dangerous as nuclear weapons.

Left-wingers trained the bots to lie

Musk told Carlson that ChatGPT’s software was developed by left-leaning experts, who “trained the chatbots to lie.” Arguably, the liberal tinge on the app might inflict damage. Moreover, the bots can control users’ minds by providing misleading information.

An impact on the results of elections should be the least of our worries, Musk warned. He said that AI could be more dangerous than bad car manufacturing or production maintenance or mismanaged aircraft design.

The potential to destroy civilization

Albeit small, AI has the potential to destroy civilization. Musk met with Obama to encourage AI regulation to this end. He said:

I saw it happening from well before GPT-1, which is why I tried to warn the public for years. The only one on one meeting I ever had with Obama as President I used not to promote Tesla or SpaceX, but to encourage AI regulation.
