The Algorand Foundation announced that it has become a member of the OpenWallet Foundation (OWF), an open-source project advancing digital payments, access, and identity by promoting cooperation across industries, according to a press release.

OWF Board Members Ola Ben Har, Developer Relations Lead for Payments at Google, and Marie Austenaa, Head of Digital Identity for Visa, shared the news on stage at the Open Source Summit Europe.

Creating open-source software for digital wallets

OWF is hosted by Linux Foundation Europe. It is the first port of call for public organizations, businesses, and non-profits to create open source software for interoperable digital wallets. Among OWF’s members are Visa, Google, the Cardano Foundation, and Accenture.

Bruno Martins, Principal Architect at Algorand Foundation said:

Our role at Algorand Foundation is to support the development and scaling of enterprise-level web3 applications in our diverse ecosystem, and we recognize the ongoing significance of defining, contributing and adopting interoperable standards. We are thrilled to join the incredible network facilitated by OWF and look forward to working together to drive interoperability and innovation in digital wallets.

Daniel Goldscheider, Founder and Executive Director at OWF, added:

Digital wallets are critical for many use-cases from identity to access and of course crypto assets. Algorand is a leader in this space and I'm excited the Foundation joined OpenWallet.

Earlier this month, Algorand announced two investments: Defly and Pera, leading wallets in the Algorand ecosystem. The investments are aimed at supporting vast and solid infrastructure as well as ecosystem growth.

About Algorand and the Algorand Foundation

Algorand is a distributed ledger and protocol developed for real-world impact, with instant block finality, pure proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, smart contract capacities, and atomic transaction groupings.

The Algorand Foundation takes responsibility for the Algorand blockchain’s promise of global sustainability. It does this by ensuring decentralized governance, solid monetary supply economics, and a healthy and successful open-source ecosystem.
