Pop culture icon Madonna and digital artist Beeple have announced a three-video NFT collaboration called “Mother of Creation” featuring the music superstar giving birth.
The art will be auctioned on SuperRare Wednesday.
Madonna took to Twitter and shared in a video Tuesday with Beeple that the pair began collaborating on her first-ever NFTs a year ago.
“We set out to create something that is absolutely and utterly connected to the idea of creation and motherhood,” Madonna said of her NFTs.
While the Madonna x Beeple NFT videos might seem erotic at first with the NFTs depicting a naked 3D avatar of Madonna giving birth in different settings, she explained that the art has a straightforward meaning.
“The opening of each video is essentially me giving birth,” she added. “I’m doing what women have been doing since the beginning of time, which is giving birth. But on a more existential level, I’m giving birth to art, and creativity, and we would be lost without both.”
Proceeds from sales to be donated
According to the project’s website, the collections from the NFT auction will be donated to three charities—The Voices of Children Foundation, The City of Joy, and Black Mama’s Bail Out.
The charities are focused on, respectively, helping Ukrainian children, female survivors of violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and incarcerated black women.
NFTs are blockchain-based assets that are unique as their identifying information is recorded in smart contracts.
Madonna joins list of celebrities that have launched NFTs
Celebrities have tokenized everything from artwork, and music to videos to using NFTs.
Rapper Snoop Dogg also released his NFT collection called “A Journey with the Dogg" featuring his memories from his early years.
Pop culture queen Paris Hilton dropped her first NFT with Super Plastic, a vinyl toy, and digital collectibles company, and sold her Iconic Crypto Queen NFT in April last year for $1.1 million and has a collection of 141 pieces.
Lindsay Lohan, Shawn Mendes, and Emily Ratajkowski are also among the celebrities who have in some way or another entered the world of NFTs.
