Golf’s Greg Norman and tennis greats Boris Becker and Jim Courier are among the backers behind Alchemy Global, a site billing itself as sport and entertainment’s first crowdfunding site for accredited investors, and one which just closed its investment round.

Based in Charleston, South Carolina, Alchemy Global is run by a management team that has worked directly with Cal Ripken, Pele, Pete Carroll, David Beckham, Michael Jordan and Montel Williams.  Areas they focus on include product differentiation, customer base diversification and financial consultation.  Their first three clients will be announced in the next few weeks, according to a press release.

“There are an immense number of smart, unique businesses whose founders and leaders are…in need of additional expertise to implement their growth strategy,” said Alchemy Global CEO Andy Brusman.  “Our leadership team will guide them through their capital raise while also providing a wealth of know-how.”

In later statements Mr. Brusman credited the JOBS Act with creating an environment which allowed the creation of Alchemy’s portal.  Crediting their global network of contacts with being a main reason behind the value they provide, Alchemy also cites the expertise provided by an advisory panel with a ride range of experiences in professional sport.

For all his success on a golf course, Greg Norman is an even better businessman.  His companies produce wine, clothing, eye glasses and golf-related equipment.  He owns restaurants, designs golf courses, sells beef and markets events.  “While the current universe of funding platforms focuses solely on raising capital, Alchemy takes a hands-on operational role, helping clients implement a sustainable growth strategy,” Mr. Norman said.  “The Alchemy network aligns clients with key relationships that impact every stage of the company’s life cycle. It is as unique a business proposition as you will find in sports and entertainment today.”

Other members of the advisory team bring a diverse set of sports and entertainment experience to Alchemy:

♦ Jim Courier’s InsideOut Sports and Entertainment books tennis players for public appearances and tournaments.

♦ Todd Ruppert is the former CEO of T. Rowe Price Global Investment Services.

♦ Russ Lindsay once managed Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and other British television personalities.

♦ Terry Byrne spent five of his more than 20 years in footy as David Beckham’s personal manager.

♦ Chris Flannery was president of Ripken Baseball.

♦ Bill Moses worked for both the NFL and NHL.
