Iconic metal star Ozzy Osborne has dipped his toes in the booming non-fungible token (NFT) space after announcing a project dubbed CryptoBatz. A report unveiled this news on December 27, noting that the CryptoBatz collection comprises 9,666 unique bats and will drop in January 2022. Reportedly, this collection marks the infamous moment he bit off the head of a bat during a 1982 performance.

According to the report, the Prince of Darkness decided to launch this collection after his wife Sharon Osbourne discouraged him from buying a Bored Ape NFT. Osbourne created CryptoBatz in partnership with Sutter Systems, an NFT studio.

The NFTs will be available from mid-January and are set to introduce an innovative world-first feature to the NFT market. Allegedly, each CryptoBat will offer its owner a chance to create another NFT. Explaining this process, the publication said this feature would enable the CryptoBat to bite and mutate with another NFT in the collector’s wallet.

NFTs created through this process are dubbed MutantBatz, and owners can merge their attributes with another project, making these NFTs rare for collectors. Among the projects that CryptoBatz can bite include Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), SupDucks, Cryptotoadz. CryptoBatz will also be able to bite into NFTs another fourth project, which remains a mystery for now.

Iconic NFTs

While Osbourne decapitating a bat became an iconic moment in the history of rock-and-roll, it is worth noting that the Prince of Darkness did not do it intentionally. Highlighting what transpired during the 1982 performance in Des Moines, Iowa, Osbourne said he thought a fan threw a bat replica on stage and decided to taste it without any questions.

After giving it a bite, he reckons that he felt something wrong after his mouth filled up with a warm, gloopy fluid and the worst aftertaste one could ever imagine.

Commenting on CryptoBatz, Osbourne said it is a mental project for NFT collectors and fans, adding,

The design pays tribute to one of my most iconic on-stage moments and is a chance to acquire a rare piece of art history. I love it!

A pre-sale for the project is now open through the CryptoBatz discord channel. The channel will also offer an additional 2,500 CryptoBat pre-sale whitelist passes. Successful applicants will be able to mint up to three CryptoBatz per digital wallet. The public sale will commence in early February.

A treasure hunt for Cryptobatz holders

Apart from launching the Cryptobatz projects, Osbourne intends to roll out AncientBatz, a treasure hunt for CryptoBatz holders, which will see the project scatter the virtual AncientBatz across the globe in hidden locations. Any holder that secures an AncientBat will have more breeding power because they can bite up to 100 times, creating more MutantBatz in the process.
