  • The potential cost of implementing the resolution is not known
  • Resolution to ban vending machines that don’t accept crypto

Republican Senator Ted Cruz proposed a resolution to adopt crypto in the halls of the United States Congress using an incentive all affected parties can agree on — food, CoinTelegraph wrote. If adopted, the concurrent resolution dated January 25 will ban vending machines and food supply and catering firms that don’t accept crypto.

The US Capitol’s Architect, the Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives, and the Secretary of the Senate will have to seek out and contract the crypto-accepting food and vending companies if Cruz’s proposal goes through. The text of the resolution was not publicly available on the Congress website at the time of writing.

Unknown potential cost

The potential cost of implementing the resolution is not known at this time. There is a possibility that contractors will be required to take payment in certain cryptocurrencies.

Joining the ranks of Lummis and Toomey

Ted Cruz has been a vocal advocate for cryptocurrencies for a long time, especially praising Bitcoin for its transparency and decentralization. He bought Bitcoin worth between $15,000 and $50,000 around a year ago, a financial disclosure revealed.

Cruz joins the ranks of senators Cynthia Lummis and Pat Toomey as a staunch crypto supporter. Toomey recently tabled a stablecoin bill with the purpose to build a regulatory payment framework. Lummis has supported many pro-crypto bills.

According to the crowdsourced data project “Bitcoin Politicians,” there are only five other crypto investors in Congress.

Making the Lone Star State a crypto oasis

Senator Ted Cruz has expressed an interest to turn his home state into a crypto oasis. He says one can use crypto mining to monetize the energy from gas and oil extraction. One can use the activity as an alternate way of storing energy.

Cruz’s resolution needs to be agreed to in both the House of Representatives and the Senate before it can be passed into law.
